This past weekend, the Mississauga Senators had excellent success at the Shanahan Tournament hosted by the Mississauga Reps. Both the Senator Atom and Peewee teams came out on top as champions of the tournament.

The Atom’s had an exceptional tournament, coming out with a perfect 7-0 record with 46 GF, 4 GA, and 3 shutouts. “It was a great team effort with clutch performances from many different players all weekend. All the players showed excellent team work, great work ethic and unselfish play” says head coach Chris Stevenson. Even though the Senators were unbeatable this past weekend, they had to work hard for the win. “We were down 1-0 after the first shift of the final. But, after a beautiful pass from Luke Ellinas to William Moore, we tied the game 1-1 and quickly took the lead 2-1 after another beautiful passing play. The game winning goal was scored by Aidan Russell after a beautiful back door pass from Moore” says Stevenson. In the end, the Senators came out victorious with 6 different scorers in the final finishing with a 6-1 win over GTHL rivals Toronto Junior Canadians. Goaltenders Evan Maillet and William Smith had a combined 4 goals against in 7 games and only 1 goal against on Sunday through the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final.

This is the Atom Senators second tournament win of the season. In September, they came out on top in the Toronto Marlboros friendship tournament. The team will be getting reading for The PlayStation Cup at the end of November and the Silverstick in January hoping for the same success that they have had so far this season. The Senators are off to a 22-0-3 start, which Stevenson calls “a truly remarkable accomplishment”. They are ranked #1 in the Ontario and are currently sitting 1st place in the GTHL standings.

The Senators organization is incredibly proud of our Atom team and all their accomplishments so far in the season. Best of luck to the Atom’s as they continue with the rest of the season and all upcoming tournaments. Go Senators go!
