PeeWee Senators Toronto Red-Wing-Early Bird Tournament Champions
The Peewee’s are starting off their season with a victory at the Toronto Red Wings Early Bird Tournament. The team went a perfect 7-0 in the tournament, with 43 goals for, and only 9 goals against. Many players on this team are returning Senators, and are no strangers to victory. Since Minor Atom, the 06’s have been a very strong team winning tournament after tournament, and even winning the GTHL Championship. Altogether, this is the 06’s ninth major tournament win in a row.

The team was dedicated to displaying a strong work ethic this weekend, and their friendships off the ice have very quickly translated into teamwork on the ice, making for a great start to the season. “I’m always proud of our boys for putting the team first and the Toronto Red Wings tournament was no different” says head coach Chris Stevenson.

Even though the team came out on top at the end does not mean they did not face challenges along the way. “We dealt with a lot of injuries this past weekend and only had one goalie for seven games. But, Evan Maillet was up to the task and had a fantastic weekend for us. We also faced two familiar rivals (Toronto Jr. Canadians, and Toronto Marlies) in the semis and the finals. We came out flying in both games and came away with 6-2 and 5-2 victories” says Stevenson.

With their first regular season game beginning Monday September 10th, the Peewee’s recognize this is just the beginning. As the team begins their season, coach Stevenson recognizes their “focus is to continue getting better every day, continue our tournament success and try to replicate our Atom season that ended with an OHF championship. We know there will be many obstacles to overcome before then but we will need to continue staying hungry”.

The Mississauga Senators organization would like to congratulate the Peewee’s on their success this past weekend, and wish them good luck as they head into the regular season. Congratulations on a #SENSational start!
