This past weekend, the Minor Atom Sens were in London facing off in the “Drew Doughty Ronald McDonald House AAA Invitational” Tournament. The boys worked hard to capture this tourney win and came out on top, beating Honey Baked 2-1 in overtime in the championship game.
The Senators worked incredibly hard this tournament and were dedicated to winning. Head coach Mike Spadacini states “they played well as a team and all did the necessary things and made sacrifices for the name on the front of Jersey”.
After a win and a tie against Lambton Jr. Sting on Friday, the boys were heading into Saturday knowing they needed two wins to advance to the semi-finals on Sunday. Both goalies were able to shut out both opponents in their respective games and the Senators found themselves advancing to the semi-finals with a 3-1-0 round robin record. The Senators showed great speed and powerful offence and were able to dominate a very strong Barrie Colts beating 8-0 and playing their “best game of the tourney” says coach Spadacini.
The final game was back and forth the entire time and the Sens found themselves down 1-0 knowing they had to do something quick if they wanted to win the tournament. The boys were able to tie the game 1-1, forcing overtime. Alexander Hage ended OT in the first minute giving the Minor Atom’s their first tournament win of the season.
The Minor Atom’s worked very hard in training camp at August showing great desire to learn and develop and coach Spadacini is looking forward to a successful season moving forward.
