The Atom Senators have done it again– another tournament victory. This past weekend at the Silverstick, the Sens once again came out on top and confirm that they mean business and here to win this season.
The Senators worked extremely hard this tournament with every player showing immense dedication to the game. “Our team is known for our teamwork, hard work and dedication to play right until the final buzzer” says coach Chris Stevenson.
Even though the Senators came out as champions does not mean that they did not have to work for the win. “After getting out to an early lead on a goal from Michael Misa off a Zakariya Saleh rebound, the Marlies tied it up 1-1 and started to build a little momentum. But after a nice pass from Bode Stewart, Adam Chorzepa made it 2-1 to give us the lead going into the third period. In the 3rd we had a beautiful goal scored by Aidan Russell and Gabriel Frasca to ice the game. The Sens D core and goaltending also did an excellent job shutting down a high powered Marlies team” says coach Stevenson.
Defensemen Justin Huynh was awarded 1 of 2 awards for top Defensemen of the Silverstick tournament, which is a huge achievement.
The Atom Senators are currently 44-1-4 sitting 1st place in the GTHL standings with a record of 266 goals for and 57 goals against. They have had a truly remarkable season coming out as champions in all 4 tournaments they have entered- the Marlies early bird, Shanahan tournament, the PlayStation cup and now the Silverstick.
As the playoffs quickly approaching, the boys are still working incredibly hard to maintain their winning season so far. “We’re still trying to lock up top seed going into the playoffs and then we will take it one opponent at a time” says coach Stevenson. “The entire coaching staff if very proud of the hard work, dedication and focus this group has shown this season and we now look to try and clinch the Kraft Cup”.
The Mississauga Senators organization is extremely proud of the season that the Atom team has had so far and wishes them luck as they finish off the regular season into playoffs. Go Sens go!
